e-Shram Card: Complete Registration Guide for Tamil Nadu Workers

Everything an unorganised worker needs to know — eligibility, documents, and step-by-step registration

What is the e-Shram Card?

The e-Shram card is a Universal Account Number (UAN) issued by the Ministry of Labour & Employment to unorganised sector workers across India. It acts as a single identity for accessing welfare schemes — including PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (accident insurance of ₹2 lakh), PM Jan Dhan Yojana benefits, and priority enrollment in schemes like PM Kisan, Ayushman Bharat, and PM Awas Yojana.

Who is Eligible?

Any worker between the ages of 16 and 59 who is NOT a member of EPFO, ESIC, or NPS (Government) and is not an income taxpayer can register. This includes construction workers, domestic workers, street vendors, agricultural labourers, rickshaw pullers, fishermen, weavers, and migrant workers. There is no income limit for registration.

Documents Required

You need: (1) Aadhaar card linked to your mobile number, (2) Bank account number and IFSC code, (3) Mobile number linked to Aadhaar. That is all. No proof of occupation is required — you self-declare your work category.

How to Register — Step by Step

Step 1: Visit eshram.gov.in or go to your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC / e-Seva Maiyam in Tamil Nadu).

Step 2: Click 'Register on e-Shram'. Enter your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and the CAPTCHA.

Step 3: An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. Enter it to verify.

Step 4: Your Aadhaar details will auto-populate. Verify and enter your bank account details.

Step 5: Select your occupation type from the dropdown (construction, domestic work, agriculture, etc.).

Step 6: Submit. Your e-Shram card with a 12-digit UAN will be generated instantly. Download it as PDF.
