90% subsidised solar pumps for irrigation — reduce diesel costs and earn extra income
PM-KUSUM helps farmers replace diesel-powered irrigation pumps with solar pumps and install solar power plants on barren or agricultural land. Farmers get solar pumps at 10% of the cost (90% subsidised) and can sell surplus solar power to DISCOMs for additional income.
• Solar pumps at only 10% cost (Centre + State subsidise 90%)
• Zero fuel cost — no diesel expenses for irrigation
• Earn income by selling surplus power to grid
• Reliable water supply — not dependent on electricity grid
• Grid-connected solar power plants on barren/agricultural land (1–2 MW)
• Available in 3 HP, 5 HP, and 7.5 HP pump capacities
Individual farmers, farmer groups, water user associations, farmer producer organisations, and panchayats. The farmer must have agricultural land and an existing irrigation source. Priority is given to PM-KISAN beneficiaries.
• Aadhaar card
• Land ownership documents (patta/chitta)
• Bank account details
• Photograph of existing irrigation source
• Application through state DISCOM or agriculture department
Apply through the State Nodal Agency for PM-KUSUM or through your state DISCOM. In Tamil Nadu, contact TANGEDCO or the Department of Agriculture for applications. You can also register on the MNRE portal. The state will shortlist applications and install the solar pump through empanelled vendors.
